This is part two of this post.
So leading worship went really well. i mean *really* well.
First, i got there early and practiced. When the team showed up, we completely talked through the whole service: which tags we were taking, how many verses we were doing, which verses to start harmonies on, etc. The talk-through really helped. We practiced, and even though we were a minimalist band, and only had female singers, the ensemble was really good.
When the service started, i managed to count off really good tempos and keep them. We did the first two songs, which went really well. The third song was a little bit more rough because we weren't able to practice that one before the service. But it went ok. The last song went well. Remember how i wasn't sure how well i'd do singing and playing that one? i just didn't sing. It wasn't a big deal. It was more important to keep the music underneath going. i forgot to cue the singers in to the first verse, but no one noticed, and i just played a couple extra intro measures. They came in just fine, and said it was not stressful at all to jump in.
Also, i was not sure if i should say things to introduce any of the songs, so i didn't. However, for the third song, people were sitting down already, and i didn't want them to think it was just special music, so i said "Please sing with us" and they did and it worked out.
People responded really warmly, and i know that i got some of what my boss calls "heebie-jeebies" from a good worship time. It couldn't have gone better, and i blame God. It's nice He showed me that i could decently fill on leading worship, or even better, i feel confident that if doing something like that full-time as a career were something He calls me to, i could do it. Hopefully i'll be able to keep doing things like this, to hone the skill.
i just feel really grateful.

YAY! God is Awesome!
Woo hoo! I'm so glad to hear it went well. I knew you could do it!
I was thinking about you on Sunday when I was at church and I wondered how it went.
Glad you gave us an update!
So good to hear it!
My husband had others fill in for him this week, too, but it was because he was sick, so he just played the guitar and gave others a chance to sing the lead.
I understand what you mean about the talking. I never know if or when I should, so I just pray and usually everything comes out OK. I'm always concerned I might say something stupid. Glad everything went good.
BTW, we're not the gaspards anymore, remember? I noticed that's how you listed me on the blogroll. It's The Bayou Belles and Their Beau, not that anyone cares or anything.
good for you!! that's awesome!
That's awesome! I love to hear stories about people successfully stepping outside of their box! SUCH a confidence booster!
Congrats on a job well done!
Leading worship is such a hard job. I lead and played the piano for over a year and it can be so stressful. Trying to keep the beat, lead others, have everyone staring at you, or them not singing all at is really hard! Then there's the issue with people complaining about the music you pick out. We just recently moved, so I'm not leading worship right now, but our new place has asked if I would like to. I think I'd like to get settled here a little longer before I jump into such a large commitment. Blessings to you.
